Vote June 23? Why Wait?! Apply Now to Vote by Mail

People: 2 Machine: 0! In a major victory for supporters of Bernie Sanders (and, uh, Andrew Yang) the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan has ruled against the NY State BOE and upheld a previous decision reinstating the June 23 New York state presidential primary. Don’t underestimate the importance of this. Bringing more delegates to the Democratic convention will demonstrate the growing strength of democratic socialism and put us in a much better position to negotiate for changes to the Democratic party’s platform.

Of course, you were planning to vote in June anyway, because of all those state and local candidates. AOC, Samelys Lopez, Zohran Mamdani, Julia Salazar, Jabari Brisport, Phara Souffrant Forest, Marcela Mitaynes. Check which races you can vote in.

Voting this time around won’t even require going to the polls. Governor Cuomo has once again shown himself to be the wiser of two evils. He will permit all New Yorkers to vote by mail if they self-identify as suffering from a “temporary illness,” such as fear of COVID.

If you’re a New York City resident, go here and request a ballot. It’s super fast. Took me literally one minute. If you expect to spend June hiding out in your dad’s basement in Nevada, list that as your mailing address.

Stop reading here. Go fill out the application.

Have you done it yet?

Ok good.

Now that you’ve applied for an absentee ballot, the BOE will mail you the actual ballot. It may take a few weeks. Be patient. But, once you receive it, pounce like a tiger! Fill out that ballot in blue or black ink, enclose it in both the privacy envelope and the regular envelope, and get it back in the mail. Definitely postmark it on or before June 22.

P.S. For New York State residents outside the city, the fallback option is this form in English or Spanish. If you hear anything about other languages, let us know! You will need to look up your registration address. You can fill it out on your computer and email it or print and mail it. If neither of those work, the BOE will also mail you a physical copy of this same form, provided you are at the address they know about. Use blue or black ink to fill it out. Find your county Board of Elections contact information here. The BOE must receive your application by June 16, unless you hand deliver it. Rushing out at the last minute to hand-deliver a vote-by-mail application… Wouldn’t that be funny? Don’t do that.
